About The Sydney Feminists

The Sydney Feminists is an incorporated not-for-profit, run by a small team of passionate volunteers.  We are a young group, founded in early 2012, but have already achieved much in our short time as an activist organisation.

Between 2012 and 2014, The Sydney Feminists was involved in numerous campaigns and projects, particularly in the areas of reproductive rights, ending violence against women, masculinity, and women's portrayal in the media and in pop culture.

Today our focus is on education, which we achieve through a variety of means.

Media Education: We have a growing library of powerful documentaries that explore the various types of discrimination women endure both in Australia and around the world. We believe that using media to educate is both effective and engaging. We do public screenings of these films throughout the year but are also available on demand to do free screenings at educational institutions.

Workshops: We’ve held workshops ranging from cyberbullying to respectful relationships to challenging beauty ideals. We’ve presented these for youth groups and institutions and make them available to schools and Universities as well.

Free Online Information: TSF has an ever-growing resource and research section on our website, specifically tailored for students doing their PIP/Uni assignments on feminist topics.  Over the years a talented team of academics and researchers have contributed to this online archive of educational material.

Social Media: We have also built a thriving and active virtual space through the use of social media, and have a particularly large following on Instagram. We have run projects through YouTube, campaigns on Facebook and raised the profile of other women’s groups and events through our promotional networking.  Our Tumblr and Blogger platforms showcase the work of talented writers covering a wide range of topics, from women’s film history, to book and film reviews, to pop culture analysis, to current events and serious issues.

We are always on the lookout for passionate individuals who would like to help us reach our goals. If you are interested in volunteering with The Sydney Feminists please check out available roles and opportunities here.
